Pacifiers for breastfed babies can cause nipple confusion but can reduce risk of SIDs, should I use one or not?

I've read that using a pacifier reminds the baby to keep breathing which reduces the risk of SIDS, but also that using a pacifier can cause nipple confusion. I'm on the fence on whether to use one or not with my daughter that's due in July. Any opinions? Has anyone used one and it actually cause nipple confusion to the point of the baby not eating? I know SIDS is not very common but my husband works in an ER and he actually does see a lot of cases, which makes me wonder about the statistics.
